TAU – Autism-Specific Family Education®

Do you often find that parenting a child with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is especially challenging? Does everyday family life sometimes feel overwhelming? Do you feel left to manage on your own? Are you looking for targeted support that goes beyond a single therapeutic model or educational approach? If so, you’ve come to the right place.

A course for parents of children with autism

APW offers this course to support you in the everyday challenges of parenting a child with an autism spectrum disorder. It provides a form of training specifically tailored to your family’s unique situation. Drawing on a variety of therapeutic and support approaches, we work together to develop practical strategies to help you manage daily family life. The course also fosters close cooperation with selected organizations.

During the parenting course, the focus is on the individual situation of each family. Together with the course leader, you will develop alternative action and communication strategies that can be applied in your daily family life. A practice week provides a hands-on training environment and an opportunity for mutual exchange between families. The transfer of these strategies into everyday life is supported through optional participation in a follow-up course.

TAU - Autism-specific parent education

The course focuses on the individual situation of the families. During the course days, alternative action and communication strategies are planned together with you, which you can incorporate into your everyday life. A practice week serves as a training ground and for mutual exchange. Possible topics are

Strengthening, exchange and practical help

The course can be attended by families with children up to approx. 18 years of age from the entire autism spectrum. The small course group and the close supervision by the specialists make it possible to respond individually to each family. The comprehensive educational offer is based on structuring and visualization (based on TEACCH), the Affolter Model® and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). These approaches offer explanations and helpful strategies for coping with your specific parenting tasks. All approaches are characterized by a high degree of everyday relevance and flexibility, which make it possible to take into account the specific needs of the family and achieve noticeable changes in everyday family life. We offer further support in the form of press reviews, texts, flyers and films to download.
