Key points at a glance
This book is about children and adults who suffer from behavioral disorders.
The first part describes the development of normal children, the second the characteristics manifested by children and adults who suffer from perceptual disorders, and the third addresses the learning processes of normal and disabled individuals.
Numerous photos and examples illustrate various stages of normal and disturbed development.
Based on her research, Ms. Affolter presents a model of human development where a person's evolution through its various stages depends on the person's root – the origin of development – which consists of tactilo-kinesthetic interaction with their environment.
This developmental model not only explains the development of normal human beings, but it also allows us to diagnose and treat children and adults who are abnormally developed or who have suffered a brain injury.
When our treatment strengthens a person's «roots,» we enable them to progress and reach higher levels.
Those concerned with children and adults, whether normal or disabled (in terms of identification, assessment, diagnosis, education, and/or treatment), will benefit from this book.
