The Affolter Model®

The Affolter Model®, developed by Félicie Affolter, a student of Jean Piaget, through her years of work with children and adults with perceptual impairments, consists of a developmental model and a therapeutic method. The developmental model assumes that all development is based on an interaction between humans and their environment. If this interaction is hindered due to perceptual impairments, development is also impaired. The tactual-kinesthetic system, which provides the sensed input in all interaction processes, is of paramount importance.

The Affolter Model® therapy method attempts to facilitate more appropriate sensory information through guided interactions in the nursing field or when dealing with everyday problems, thereby initiating developmental progress.
The authors describe the Affolter Model® in detail, covering its full range of applications. The thorough presentation of perceptual and interaction processes is supplemented by numerous case studies.
The authors have been working with the Affolter Model® for many years. They apply the model in their daily therapeutic practice, whether in their own practice, in outpatient services, at special schools, or at rehabilitation clinics. The majority of the authors also have qualifications as instructors in the Affolter Model®.

The book is aimed not only at physiotherapists and occupational therapists, but at all readers who work in a therapeutic and/or (special) educational capacity.
